Telling stories through 'not so ordinary' photos
"Instead of using the camera only to reproduce objects, I wanted to use it to make what is invisible to the eye visible." Wynn Bullok, Photographer
Experimental photography is defined as using non-traditional techniques in photography. There are no rules but there are many techniques that can produce expressive and interesting images.
Long exposure, time exposure or slow shutter photography refers to a technique where you keep the shutter open for an unusually long period of time. I use this technique when I want to show the motion blur and usually, I don't let more than 10 seconds to expose. Most of the photographs are digital but I also enjoy playing with analog. Currently, I'm experimenting with an Ilford Obscura pinhole camera trying to expose for a longer period, between 8 minutes to 24 hours.
Double exposure is a technique that combines two different exposures that are layered on top of each other. I use this technique on film with an old Kodak camera and I expose the same part of the film twice.
I also like to use intentional out-of-focus and camera movement, textures/glasses on top of the lens, and colour lights to create a dreamy, painting-like look to the image.
Through experimental photos, I am trying to give meaning to creative thoughts and actions.
